NWS Confirms Another VA Tornado from April Outbreak

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado in Botetourt County as part of an April outbreak of twisters in Virginia.

Meteorologist Phil Hysell told The Roanoke Times Wednesday that the tornado with peak winds near 80 mph uprooted trees in an uninhabited area of the county during the outbreak April 27 and 28. The tornado was about 125 yards wide and covered 1.6 miles.

More than 30 tornadoes hit Virginia in April, killing ten people and destroying more than 200 homes and damaging more than 1,000 others.
