Agricultural officials in Washington County estimate a series of storms in April caused nearly $38 million worth of damage to farms and forests.
They say the storms left a devastating path nearly 20 miles long, through Bethel, Chilhowie, Glade Spring and other farming communities April 28.
The Bristol Herald Courier reports that the U.S. Department of Agriculture and other federal agencies are working with farmers slammed by the storms.
The losses include 4,000 acres of timber, 500 miles of fencing and 200 damaged or destroyed barns.
