The stuck sweating in the heat Thursday are not alone. Pets also have to deal with Thursday's hot weather.

With summer coming, the Harrisonburg-Rockingham County SPCA is advising all animal lovers to make sure their pets stay healthy and happy.

Officials advise pet owners to pay special attention to making sure pets have plenty of water, and there is one common rule to consider to keep your pet safe.

"Well I think so much of that depends on your pets and their health and their age and whether or not they're obese but a good rule of thumb is if you're hot your pet probably is too," says Anne Anderson, of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham County SPCA.

Anderson adds that this is a busy time of the year for the SPCA, and many pets are currently available for adoption.
