The Virginia Department of Transportation is gearing up to fix another sinkhole on Interstate 81.
The sinkhole is in the median at mile marker 212.
Officials say this sinkhole is not as severe as the one that closed both lanes of I-81 a week ago.
However, repairing it will still require shutting down one northbound lane starting at 10 p.m. Sunday.
One factor that may be contributing to the sinkhole problems this year is the weather.
"Rain can certainly be a factor when we see sinkhole formations. We've had a lot of rain this season and that can be a large contributor to why we are seeing sinkholes at this particular time," says VDOT spokesperson Sandy Myers.
VDOT officials hope the project will be done by early Monday but add that efforts could last into the day.
