WAYNESBORO, Va -- Ron Holder, a volunteer truck driver, has driven all the way from Texas to help people devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

“They need me, so here I am,” said Holder.

Holder felt he needed to help out any way he could after Hurricane Sandy and that was why he is a part of the Texas Baptist Men's Disaster Relief Group.

“I was shocked at the amount of damage the storm did. The category wasn't very high, but it did so much damage.”

About 50 volunteers came together to use their resources to go volunteer in New York and New Jersey.

Volunteers planned to cook meals, use chainsaws and be there for Sandy's victims.

Good neighbors helped them on their trip. Volunteers stayed at a Baptist church and they were thankful for the help they received.

“It lets you know that you're not the only one concerned about the welfare of these people, and there's people that want to help them any way they can.”

Volunteer Elaine Barnard said her faith motivated her to help any way she could.

“You feel a call and a sympathy for the people, and you want to go out and help,” said Barnard.

That was why she joined Holder and other volunteers. They hoped people would learn about the faith they have and rely on it as they move past Sandy.

“That's what our mission is, to give them that drink of water and bread and to help them, however they need help,” said Holder.

Some volunteers will be working in the North East until Thanksgiving. They said they will rely on good neighbors and their faith through the rest of their trip.
