TIMBERVILLE, Va ---- A farmers with Ryan's Fruit Market grows all sorts of food, including apples. He said he has had a light apple harvest so far this year.
Usually the market has about 10 seasonal apple pickers, but this year, they only have four or five.
The market's owner says a freeze in late March hurt this year's crops.
“It's going to impact sales some, because some varieties we just don't have this year,” said Carroll Ryan, owner of the market. “We always sell a lot of ginger gold apples, but they ripen about the first of August. We normally pick about 1,500 bushels. We had about 18 bushels this year. That had quite an impact on sales.”
The market sells more than just apples and those sales have helped balance out the overall sales for the store.
