A Tazewell County man has pleaded guilty to felony homicide and a firearms charge stemming from the death of a West Virginia man during a game of quick draw.
In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dropped an involuntary manslaughter charge against 23-year-old Randy Howerton of Falls Mills. Howerton was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with 25 suspended Wednesday in Tazewell County Circuit Court.
Howerton was charged after the death of 42-year-old Wesley K. Miliam Sr. of Kegley, West Virginia in January 2009. Authorities say Kegley was shot in the stomach during a game of quick draw at Howerton's home.
