The Faculty Senate of West Virginia University has demanded the resignation of President Mike Garrison, saying the school cannot heal and rebuild its reputation as long as he is present.

A motion of no confidence in Garrison over a degree scandal involving the governor's daughter passed 77-19, with one abstention. It includes a demand that he resign.

Two other measures recommending less severe responses to the crisis that has tarnished the school's reputation failed.

Since an independent panel concluded April 23 that WVU administrators and educators gave Mylan Inc. executive Heather Bresch an executive master's of business administration degree she didn't earn, the university has been divided.
