A newly formed group of faculty, students and alumni says it will protest during graduation ceremonies West Virginia University President Mike Garrison's refusal to resign.

The group is called Mountaineers for Integrity and Responsibility, or MIR. It says it will make its presence known at the commencement exercises that begin Saturday, May 17.

MIR also says it hopes to convince legislators that systemic change is needed to restore WVU's academic integrity after the degree scandal involving the governor's daughter.

The group says that change should include new procedures for picking the president and the provost. But in the short term, MIR says it will keep the pressure on Garrison because of what it calls the enormous, negative, long-term impact of his flawed and compromised leadership.

Though the Faculty Senate has demanded Garrison's resignation, he has no plans to step down.

I think Gov. Manchin should be held accountable and step down as Gov. It was his request for daughters degree. This is not Mike Garrison fault.
