A shootout with Marshall University police left a 19-year-old Huntington man with a gunshot wound to the head.

Rashawn Jerrell Harless was listed in critical condition Monday at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Marshall and Huntington police gave chase through town Sunday after Harless was allegedly spotted with a gun.

Huntington Police Chief Skip Holbrook says that after Harless ducked behind a trash receptacle, he began firing shots and the Marshall officers returned fire.

Huntington SWAT officers soon arrived and used ballistic shields to approach Harless, who was found wounded.

Two Marshall officers have been placed on administrative leave until the shooting investigation is complete.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Harless is a Marshall student.
