West Virginia primary voters rejected a half-dozen incumbent legislators, all of them Democrats.

The election casualties were Delegates Lidella Hrutkay of Logan County and Jeff Eldridge of Lincoln County, Wyoming County Delegate Mike Burdiss, Delegate Dave Higgins of Kanawha County, Marshall County Delegate Ken Tucker and Fayette County Delegate John Pino.

The primary ballot also featured several contests for opening state Senate seats.

Brooke County Delegate Jack Yost beat fellow Democrat Shane Mallett for the nomination in the 1st Senate District.

Fayette County's Bill Laird overcame Sue Blake Anderson for the Democratic nod in the 11th Senate District.

And Delegate Corey Palumbo of Kanawha County won the nomination for one of its Senate seats over fellow Democrat Paul Gunnoe.

All 100 House of Delegates seats are up this year, as are 17 seats in the 34-member Senate.
