The last suspect in an animal cruelty case involving 165 animals has been arrested, nearly two years after the sick dogs, cats and rabbits were seized from Preston County's Star Ridge Ranch and Rescue.

Dale E. Axelson was arrested this week in York County, Pennsylvania.

Preston County sheriff's Lt. Joe Stiles says Preston County's prosecutor intends to extradite Axelson to West Virginia.

Axelson was charged in 2006 with five counts of animal cruelty and one count of failing to register a kennel.

Kennel owner Lori Campitelli was facing the same misdemeanors but died before the charges could be resolved.

Caretakers Jennifer Ratliff and Garvis Hayes each pleaded guilty to two counts of animal cruelty in 2007.

Several dozen of the seized animals had to be euthanized.
