After three tries, the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Home has finally cleared a state inspection.
But Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety spokesman Joe Thornton there are still several hurdles to overcome before the $26-million, 120-bed home in Clarksburg can become fully operational.
Thornton learned Friday that the state Office of Health Facility Licensure and Certification found the Clarksburg facility to be in "substantial compliance" following an inspection.
The inspectors did flag two areas for which nursing home officials must prepare a corrective action plan. Thornton says if the licensure agency approves that plan, an operating license will be granted.
The home can't move forward until it passes an inspection by federal veterans officials, though.
The home was originally scheduled to open in 2005 but has been dogged by construction setbacks and other delays.
The facility, which is opening in phases, is currently home to eight residents.
