The U.S. Department of Agriculture is helping West Virginia farmers solve environmental problems and better manage their land.

Grants are available through the agency's Environmental Quality Incentives Program. The program offers up to 75 percent in cost-sharing for new equipment or to help develop better management practices for private land.

Last year, the program funded 521 applications worth $7.9 million.

The USDA also offers the Agricultural Management Assistance Program, which provides similar cost-sharing for projects related to water management, water quality and erosion control.
