Motorists heading eastbound to areas past Wheeling are being advised to bypass the city for the next couple months because of a tunnel renovation project.
The Wheeling Tunnel's eastbound tube was scheduled to close sometime Wednesday. It will remain closed for at least 14 weeks.
State Division of Highways spokesman Brent Walker says the project is expected to be completed by November 1.
Wheeling police say eastbound motorists can bypass the city by taking Interstate 470 east at St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Renovation of the 40-year-old tunnel was originally scheduled to be finished in May 2007, but problems with removing the old tiles pushed the completion date back.
