Harrison County's Summit Park Volunteer Fire Department is out of service while the state Fire Marshal's Office looks into several complaints.

Fire Marshal Sterling Lewis says his staff discovered that the fire department's insurance was canceled in early June. Lewis is still looking into other allegations brought to his attention by the County Commission. Those include disruption of electrical service and disconnected phone service at the station.

Lewis asked the fire chief on Wednesday to stop responding to emergency calls until these matters are resolved. In the meantime, other area departments will be dispatched. While he says that may cause slight delays, Lewis doesn't expect major problems with response time.

Fire Chief Brenda Fragmin couldn't immediately be reached for comment Thursday.
