All lanes of the West Virginia Turnpike reopened Wednesday, 24 hours after a fatal tractor-trailer accident.

The West Virginia Turnpike Authority says the driver, 69-year-old Gary Shrout of Leesburg, Ohio, died in Tuesday's crash.

Two acid-based chemicals spilled from the truck in the 2 p.m. accident that forced the highway to be closed in both directions. One lane was reopened in each direction Wednesday morning and the remaining lanes were reopened by midafternoon.

West Virginia Turnpike Manager Greg Barr says he is reviewing the incident, which caused traffic to back up for miles. Northbound motorists complained they weren't warned about the accident when they went through toll booths near Beckley.
