Gov. Joe Manchin wants the West Virginia Turnpike's governing board to examine a shutdown of the toll road that backed up traffic for several miles and stranded motorists for hours.

Hazardous materials crews closed all four lanes near the Chelyan exit on Tuesday after a tractor-trailer wrecked and spilled chemicals. The highway remained closed for at least ten hours.

A detour route became clogged when a different truck got stuck at an overpass.

Transportation Secretary Paul Mattox told the state Parkways, Economic Development and Tourism Authority on Thursday that Manchin wants to make sure motorists aren't stuck in their vehicles for hours when an accident occurs.
