West Virginia consumers will get a tax break the first week in September when they purchase energy-savings appliances.

Gov. Joe Manchin and Attorney General Darrell McGraw announced Tuesday the state's first Energy Star sales tax holiday from September 1 through 7.

The sales and use tax break applies to certain products valued at $2,500 or less.

Energy Star dishwashers use at least 41 percent less energy, while washing machines can save nearly 7,000 gallons of water each year.

Qualifying appliances carry the Energy Star label.

The sales holiday is West Virginia's first involving Energy Star.
