Environmental groups pushing creation of a wind farm on the planned site of a mountaintop removal mining site are holding a green jobs rally in Charleston.

Coal River Wind, Coal River Mountain Watch and other activists are set to gather at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the state Capitol complex in Charleston.

They want Gov. Joe Manchin to rescind state-issued mining permits for Coal River Mountain, but Manchin has declined.

Massey Energy plans to mine some 6,000 acres of the Raleigh County mountain. The environmentalists want Massey to deep-mine the land so a wind farm could be built above.

The rally features speakers who say their homes are being threatened.
