A Berkeley County teacher charged with the battery of a student has been placed on paid administrative leave.

School system spokeswoman Jaimee Borger confirmed North Middle School teacher Richard B. Moore's status on Friday.

Moore's attorney, Craig Manford, says his client tells him the alleged battery didn't happen. Moore pleaded not guilty after his arrest Thursday.

Martinsburg police say the 44-year-old Martinsburg resident committed battery against a 14-year-old boy at the Martinsburg school where he teaches.

Moore has been released on $2,500 bond.
