The trial of a Kentucky man on state charges of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a Wheeling girl has been postponed.

Joshua Michael Ridings of Owensboro, Kentucky was scheduled to stand trial April 27 in Ohio County Circuit Court. But the public defender's office found it would have a conflict.

On Thursday, Circuit Judge James Mazzone granted a request by Riding's new court-appointed attorney, Chris Sheets, to postpone the trial.

A new trial date will be set May 21.

The 29-year-old Ridings is accused of taking the 11-year-girl from Wheeling into Belmont County, Ohio and sexually assaulted her in February 2007.

He pleaded guilty in October to a federal charge of crossing a state line with the intent to engage in a sexual act with a person under the age of 12.
