The West Virginia chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union says it is relaunching an effort to end the practice of racial profiling by law enforcement officers.

ACLU Executive Director Frank Crabtree said Thursday the effort is a response to a February report that said minority motorists were more likely to be stopped and searched than white motorists in the state.

The study was commissioned by the Legislature and conducted by the Division of Criminal Justice.

Crabtree said the campaign will focus on litigation, legislation and community outreach.

The ACLU plans to promote its efforts through a series of Know Your Rights seminars across the state. The seminars are to educate drivers about their constitutional rights as motorists on state roadways.
