Marshall University's chief academic officer and a professor will appear before a federal grand jury following a grade change controversy involving state Treasurer John Perdue's daughter.

Marshall said in a statement that Provost Gayle Ormiston was subpoenaed Thursday.

Laura Wyant, a professor in the College of Education and Human Services, also received a subpoena Thursday. Wyant said she was asked to bring before the grand jury all records in her possession related to Emily Perdue.

Emily Perdue took two courses with Wyant this spring. Perdue received incomplete grades from Wyant, but Ormiston has said Perdue completed the coursework over the summer.

Marshall said it is confident that there was no inappropriate action.
