Faculty members at Marshall University's medical school have received a total $3 million in grants for biomedical research and work force development projects.

Marshall announced the grants from the National Institutes of Health Wednesday.

Research projects funded by the grants include identification of potential biomarkers for cardiovascular disease, prevention of kidney damage caused by a cancer chemotherapy drug, summer research for interns at Marshall and West Virginia University, and cancer research.

The work force development funding will support a two-year program that pays students and high school teachers to work on research projects in campus labs.
