A retired Royal Air Force sergeant has joined 80 West Virginia National Guard veterans who are suing military contractor KBR Inc. over exposure to a toxic chemical during the Iraq War.
The National Guard members sued Houston-based KBR in federal court. The complaint was amended Thursday to include 44-year-old United Kingdom resident Andrew Tosh of Lincolnshire.
Tosh claims KBR knew about dangerous levels of sodium dichromate at an Iraqi water-treatment plant months before it informed American and British troops guarding the facility.
The chemical, used to keep pipes from rusting, blew in the wind from piles up to four feet deep.
KBR has denied wrongdoing.
Houston lawyer Michael Doyle says many plaintiffs still suffer rashes, nose bleeds, respiratory problems and tumors.
