The state Senate has endorsed a range of fixes for West Virginia's school dropout problem, but raising the age at which students can leave school isn't among them.
The Senate voted unanimously Friday to approve a House of Delegates measure aimed at reducing the number of students who don't finish high school.
The bill proposes new programs for disruptive students, those with drug problems and for career and technical-bound students needing help with core coursework.
The House also sought to raise the age at which students can leave school from 16 to 17, but a Senate committee deleted that provision.
The measure now heads back to the House.
