A bill aimed at curbing online bullying and stalking has passed the West Virginia Senate.
The Senate voted unanimously Friday to approve the measure, which has already passed the House of Delegates. It's headed back to the House because the Senate made some minor changes to the legislation.
The bill adds to an existing law that bars phone- and computer-borne harassment or threats. Besides expanding that law to include mobile phones and similar devices, it targets incidents when someone impersonates another person on Websites, in e-mail or through other electronic means.
Supporters of the bill say it doesn't abridge free speech because it exempts comments that simply criticize.
