Three Minor WV Earthquakes in April

Minor earthquakes have rattled Braxton County for the second and third times in less than a month.

The U.S. Geological Survey's website shows a 2.6-magnitude temblor struck at 9:36 p.m. Wednesday night. It was followed by a 2.7-magnitude earthquake at 8:38 a.m. Thursday.

The first earthquake's epicenter was six miles northwest of Flatwoods. The second temblor's epicenter was six miles west-southwest of Gassaway.

A Braxton County emergency dispatcher says several residents reported windows shaking in the Gassaway and Frametown areas but there wasn't any damage.

On April 4, a 2.8-magnitude earthquake occurred in the county. Its epicenter was eight miles west-southwest of Gassaway and 11 miles west-southwest of Sutton.
