George Orwell's Book 1984 Surges in Popularity

George Orwell's book 1984 is flying off the shelves.

It's an old classic, but recent news is sparking new interest in the novel. The book depicts the idea of big brother watching. Following the NSA scandal, the book landed number 4 of Amazon's movers and shakers book list. Here in the valley, Barnes and Noble says there is a surge in the book's popularity. Today only three books remain in the store.

"At the customer service desk we have a lot of people come up and say hey do you have 1984? It is a mix. I would say some are asking because of what they have seen and have intrest, and some is for summer reading and high school students," says merchandise manager Ron Wood.

Recently a new edition of the novel made it on Amazon's top 100 best sellers list
