W.Va. Lawmakers Revive Driver Texting Ban Bills

West Virginia legislators are again considering a ban on texting for drivers but concerns about how to enforce such a law remain.

Several House and Senate committees are slated to consider versions of the measure this week, including changes Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin's office submitted that would treat teen and adult drivers the same.

The Senate Judiciary committee is expected to bump the texting violation to a primary offense, which would allow police to stop drivers for texting. Judiciary Chair Corey Palumbo says it would be easier for police to enforce the law than if it were a secondary offense.

A texting bill with a similar provision died in the House of Delegates last year. The House Transportation committee is expected to discuss the bill Wednesday.
