HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — The Harrisonburg Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred Wednesday morning at approximately 9 a.m. where an unconscious 46-year-old man was found inside his residence in the 100 block of Emerald Drive.
Officials say local Hazardous Material Teams responded to the scene due to what appeared to be chemical odors inside the residence. The man was later announced deceased.
The victim in the incident will be transported to the Medical Examiner’s office for further assessment.
Capt. Jason Kidd, with the Harrisonburg Police Department, said the HPD Major Crimes Unit is actively investigating the incident. Officials believe the incident to be isolated with no risk to the neighboring community.
“There is no threat to the community and it does appear to be an isolated incident, Hazmat was here earlier just to make sure its safe for crews,” Capt. Kidd said. “We’ve looked into a couple of different aspects of the case and they will be referred to the medical examiner’s office. They’ll be conducting an autopsy and then we can go from there.”
