Morgan State edges by James Madison 80-73
HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - In a back-and-forth affair, Morgan State edged out James Madison 80-73 Sunday night at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
“Truth be told, I thought the game just came down to toughness,” James Madison head coach Mark Byington said. “Whether it be mental or physical toughness, we’ve got to make sure that we bring the tangibles to the court. Whether it’s being tough with the ball, boxing out, rebounding or taking charges.”
The Dukes were led in the scoring column by Matt Lewis who had 21 points.
“They just out-punked us,” Lewis said. “That’s basically what it was. We made our runs, they made their runs. They started getting physical. They started beating us on the glass. They out-punked us and we know we’ve got to be better.”
Up next for James Madison is a home game Tuesday afternoon against Florida Atlantic.
Byington also said postgame that redshirt senior Rashawn Fredricks has left the team.
The guard transferred from UAB, and has not played since the 2018-2019 season with Cincinnati.
