James Madison beats Liberty, advances to second straight Super Regional
HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - JMU took down Liberty 8-5 in Sunday’s Knoxville Regional championship to advance to the program’s second straight Super Regional.
A five-run fifth inning swung the momentum for the Dukes, as they took control from there on.
“I felt like our offense wasn’t where it could be the whole part of the tournament before that,” Sara Jubas said. “Then we finally executed and strung some hits together and I think that made the difference for us there.”
Odicci Alexander started in the circle for the third day in a row. She was replaced in the fourth inning, but came back into the game the following inning, ulitmately finishing it off.
“It gives me a ton of confidence because of what we did today, clearly the team has my back and I have theirs,” Alexander said. I’m just trying to do what’s best for this team.”
The Dukes will play no. 8 Missouri in the Super Regional best-of-three series in Columbia, MO.
“I think it’s a great path for us,” Dukes head coach Loren LaPorte said. “I think we can get it done. I know we can get it done. There’s no question. I know we can get it done and I know we can get to Oklahoma City if we play like we know how to play.”
