DAYTON, Va. (WHSV) - The Dayton Town Council met on Monday night for public hearings over next year’s budget and an amendment to this year’s budget.

The amendment comes after the town council anticipates funding from the “American Rescue Plan” by June 30 which is the end of the fiscal year.

Town Manager Angela Lawrence said the goal is to put some of the total $1.4 million funding toward a new water plant.

“The amount of water that we have with the system now is very taxing on our system so we’re gonna upgrade the technology and increase the amount of water we can produce,” Lawrence said.

Lawrence said they are also looking to designate some funding towards directional and welcome signs in the town for tourism purposes.

She said they also plan to add a 6th police officer next year and equip the force with tasers and body cameras.

A vote on the amendment and next year’s budget is planned for June 14.
