GROTTOES, Va. (WHSV) - On April 2, the town of Grottoes celebrated Chief Charlie’s Kid’s Fish Day by renaming Mountain View Park to John E. Painter Park in honor of the former Grottoes police chief who lost his life in the Bridgewater College shooting.

The town council unanimously adopted the resolution to rename the park after Painter, who served over 18 years in the community as an officer, a sergeant, and the police chief.

After two long years of canceled events due to Covid, the town of Grottoes was able to host Chief Charlie’s Kid’s Fish Day, an annual community event since 1995, which is led by the Grottoes Police Department and Former Chief Charles Lawhorne.
