HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - The Salvation Army of Harrisonburg and George’s Food teamed up with Bucky Berry Tuesday to hand out Easter-themed meals to those in need.

Captain Duane Burleigh, who recently came out of retirement to serve as interim captain of the Harrisonburg location, was in attendance to help hand out food to those who stopped by.

“It’s great, I was here for six years and loved this Valley,” Captain Burleigh said. “The people in this community are special, and to get the opportunity to come back after eight years and just once again be with the Salvation Army and be what the people need in this Valley.”

Burleigh and his wife had previously served in Harrisonburg from 2008 to 2014.

Some food items provided in the bags included chicken, bread, eggs, potatoes, and vegetables.

“I was brought up poor. The Salvation Army helped me when I was in need,” said Bucky Berry. “Salvation Army’s slogan is doing the most good and my slogan is doing the most good to stop hunger in Harrisonburg.”

Bucky Berry adds that they had 200 bags of food that were ready to be given out.

“Hunger doesn’t stop during Easter, hunger is 365 days a year,” he said.
