2 reported dead after severe storms strike Virginia

STAFFORD, Va. (WWBT) — Two people are dead after severe storms struck Virginia from Sunday night into the early hours of Monday morning.

A 78-year-old woman died after a tree fell onto her in Stafford.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office and emergency crews responded to the scene at 1:43 a.m. to find the woman, who has not been identified, pinned underneath a tree.

She was pronounced dead at 2:02 a.m.

An 82-year-old man was injured in the incident and is expected to be OK.

In Victoria, which is southeast of Farmville, a woman in her 60s was killed after a tree toppled onto her home.

Police said Lena Gaulding was in her bed when the tree fell.

There were numerous power outages in the area and first responders were in the community with they noticed a tree on Gaulding’s home around 1 a.m.

Police proceeded to do a welfare check on the home and found Gaulding pinned under the tree. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
