Agora Downtown Market is officially open

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — Thursday was the grand opening of the Agora Downtown Market in Harrisonburg.

The community market features a dozen small businesses under one roof.

The space belongs to local artisans, crafters and entrepreneurs, including 8Bit Oasis Gaming.

Lauren Davis is the owner of 8Bit. She already has a location elsewhere, but she's had her eyes on downtown for awhile.

"I would love to corrupt downtown into loving video games and everything Mario, Nintendo and anime," said Davis. "You want it, we'll probably have it."

Davis is hoping her involvement in the market will help to put a new spin on downtown.

"We're kind of quirky, we're different," said Davis. "We're going to have a little lounge for people to come in and play board games wherever they want. So just a place to make people feel comfortable and want to be with other people."

Additional vendors include: Broad Porch Coffee Co., Heartworn Vintage, The Isle Co., Mandy's Candy and New Creation.

The market will showcase temporary pop-up vendors during each weekend in June, while the six remaining spots are filled with full-time businesses.

Hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. every first Friday of each month.
