Aldi set to open in Harrisonburg before the end of summer

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- A major grocery store is getting close to opening its doors to Harrisonburg. Aldi is scheduled to open on East Market Street on August 9th.

Construction is still ongoing at the store's building.

To be prepared to open in August, the grocery chain is hiring people now.

Aldi held a job fair on Tuesday to help hire for its stores in Harrisonburg, Waynesboro and Staunton.

The Staunton location opened just last month in the new Staunton Frontier Center, bringing 15 new jobs.

One of the people who applied said it is helpful for big box stores to open up in the area to create more jobs.

"It's helpful because it kind of gets the people out and about a little bit more," Arysse Catlin, an applicant, said. "Especially with the location and people can come, go to the perfect area."

Catlin said having more stores, whether they are locally owned or not, is helpful because once college students return to the area in August, jobs are much more difficult to come by.
