HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County kicked off its 2018 Beach Bowl for Kids' Sake on Monday.

The money from the annual fundraiser goes toward matching children who are facing adversity in our community, or "littles", with adult mentors, or "bigs". This year, BBBS hopes to raise $110,000.

"Bowl for Kids' Sake is our largest fundraiser," explains Executive Director, Lindsay Douglass, "and it is very critical to our ability to provide professionally guided, one to one mentoring services to close to 600 local children each year.

This year, Beach Bowl for Kids Sake is on March 3 at Valley Lanes. Bowl times range from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

"All of the money raised from Bowl for Kids' Sake stays right here in our local community to make those matches possible, to provide professional support, enrollment services, and really just be able to continue to support the matches for their entire length," said Douglass.

You can register a team online. Each bowler is asked to raise $50 per adult bowler and $25 per student bowler. You can also donate to a team through the Bowl for Kids' Sake website.

Douglass is also a big in the program.

"It has really helped me learn about the community about the struggles that so many children are facing, but also it's allowed me to be a kid again, and to have fun."
