HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Police say that although the death hasn't been officially ruled a suicide, it is highly likely that that is the cause of death.

At this time, the Harrisonburg Police Department says it will not provide the name of the victim or any other details about the death.

Officer Brooke Wetherell with the department did say that there is no threat to public safety and that this is an isolated incident.

Police responded to an agricultural field in Harrisonburg where a body was found in the 3 o'clock hour of Sunday afternoon. The field is on the northern edge of I-81 near the Old Furnace Road (Rt. 718) bridge.

Several HPD vehicles and a K-9 unit staged from parking areas in the 38 North Apartments. Concerned residents contacted WHSV by phone and social media about the police presence.

WHSV's Katie Caler spoke with police on the scene who said they believed there was no threat to the surrounding community. Police completed a preliminary on-site investigation and are still seeking to determine the cause of death. Police have not released any details regarding the victim's age, gender or identity.
