Campground incident leads to attempted murder charge

FREDERICK COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) — At the Cove Campground, in mountainous land around 10 miles west of Winchester, deputies responded to an assault report and found a man with head, neck, and torso wounds. The incident was around midday on Tuesday. Victim Justin Leavitt was sent to the intensive care unit at Winchester Medical Center, according to a Frederick County Sheriff’s Office statement.

Victim and witness statements led to the arrest later on Wednesday of John Sims, 32, of Manassas. He was charged with attempted murder and sent to Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center, deputies said. No information about what led to the incident was released.
