HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — There's a new attraction at the Valley Mall and it isn't a store.
Harrisonburg Tourism and Visitor Services recently opened a visitor center between Belk and Sprint. It includes an interactive map of the city on a self-service kiosk, brochures to nearby attractions and restaurant guides.
The Visitor Center at Valley Mall also features the city's newly-designed branding and logo.
Brenda Black, the Tourism and Visitor Services manager, said the location was picked to help visitors beyond the downtown region.
"Extending those services outside of the Downtown District to the Valley Mall will open up opportunity for additional transient visitors that are on their way to Massanutten, the Shenandoah National Park," she said.
The new visitor center will serve as a place for tour groups to meet, for people traveling to Massanutten to stop by, and will provide lots of parking for motor coaches.
In addition, the visitor center is open during mall hours, seven days a week. The Hardesty-Higgins House is open Monday-Sunday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Travel specialists will not normally be at the center in the mall, but will be there during special events throughout the year.
