City of Harrisonburg hosts annual citizen academy
The City of Harrisonburg is giving its residents an inside look at its daily operations.
The citizen academy is back for another year and residents are encouraged to apply.
This 13-week program allows Harrisonburg residents to visit all city departments and meet the employees who service them daily.
Each department crafts their own program to walk residents through their day to day operations
Participants get the opportunity to meet their city council members, public works officers and others.
"Our public works department kind of has a parade of vehicles and they show all of the different trucks that they run and operate. You're able to see the public utilities department, and how the water treatment operates," said Harrisonburg Public Information Officer, Mary-Hope Vass.
You have to be at least 18 years old to apply and all applications must be submitted by 5 pm on August first.
