After losing its previous disposal site, Harrisonburg has a plan to start accepting recyclables on Monday.

On Friday, a crew was busy putting the finishing touches on the center, located at 2055 Beery Road.

People will have to drop off their recycle, organized by type, instead of the city picking it up along with people's trash.

Jim Baker, the director of the Public Works Department, said the department received more than a few calls about the city's recycling plans.

"Recycling is important to the environment, important to a lot of folks," Baker said. "So that's why we felt it necessary to continue to provide the program to the citizens."

Baker said Harrisonburg is looking for a longer term solution than this center but there is no option to have single-stream pick up for trash and recycle again.
