Three separate crash scenes that led to delays on Interstate 81 around Staunton on Friday evening (at mile markers 224.8, 219, and 217.4) are all now clear and delays have passed.
UPDATE (4:25 p.m.):
According to VDOT, only the shoulders of I-81 South remain closed after a crash at mile marker 224.8, but backups now stretch at least eight miles.
Farther south, the left shoulder and left lane of the northbound side of the interstate are closed due to a crash at mile marker 217.4, leading to delays of at least two miles.
Drivers heading south on Interstate 81 toward Staunton should be prepared for significant delays on Friday afternoon.
According to VDOT, a crash has closed the south left lane and left shoulder at mile marker 224.8.
This is near the Rt. 262 exit between Staunton and Verona.
As of 3:50 p.m., this was leading to backups of at least 4 miles.
Farther south, a separate crash has been reported at MM 219 area of Interstate 81, leading to a right shoulder closure on the northbound side and one mile of backups in that direction.
