Delegate Steve Landes, of Weyers Cave, stopped by Rockingham County on Friday to connect with those who protect and serve.
He did a ride-along with a Virginia State Trooper to find out what a day on the job is like.
Landes said getting out of the office and into the community will make it easier to understand the responsibilities of an officer, while learning about police operations and needs throughout the Commonwealth.
"With all the pressure on law enforcement, it's just a way for me to better understand what they're doing but also show support for the work that they do each and every day," said Landes. "You know, we're having law enforcement officials killed across the country and we've got to do something to put a stop to that."
This is the second ride-along Landes has done. His first one was
.
"I represent part of Rockingham, part of Augusta and part of Albemarle," said Landes. "So my goal is to ride with both the state police and the local law enforcement folks in those areas to get a better understanding of the region I represent."
Landes plans to get a few more rides in before the end of summer.
