Spotswood High School teacher fired after sex-with-student case

Alisha Largent, the Spotswood High School teacher who was arrested a few weeks ago for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old student, has been fired from Rockingham County schools.

Wednesday night, the Rockingham County School Board held a special meeting and voted unanimously to officially dismiss Largent.

She faces one felony count of "Indecent liberties with a child under the age of 18 while in a supervisory role," but was released from jail on her own recognizance.

"We have high expectations for our employees and especially for our teachers in all of Rockingham County schools," superintendent Dr. Carol Fenn told WHSV earlier in March. "Our board has many policies from discrimination to sexual harassment to boundary policies and what we expect from our folks who work with children everyday. So, we will continue to maintain those high, high standards."

Earlier this month, Alisha Largent, a teacher at Spotswood High School, was arrested for allegedly having sex with a student.

Search warrants reveal that Largent admitted to investigators she was having sexual relations with a 17-year-old student. According to the warrants, a cell phone was taken.

Largent told investigators she talked with the student through text messages, Snapchat and other social media platforms.

The Rockingham County School Board lists a state-wide guideline on their website to prevent sexual misconduct and abuse. It states clear boundaries between students and teachers about their communication and physical contact.
