Disney and WHSV donate 1000 books to Valley schools

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — One-thousand books were donated to two Valley elementary schools through Disney's Magic of Storytelling campaign.

For the first time, WHSV partnered with Disney for the campaign, which brought 500 books each to Spotswood Elementary School in Harrisonburg and Wenonah Elementary School in Waynesboro.

On Tuesday, WHSV's Morgan Donnelly and Kyle Rogers visited Spotswood to read two of the 500 books donated to the school.

The Magic of Storytelling campaign is an effort to support First Book, a non-profit organization that works to provide new books and resources to children in need. The kids were able to pick out one free book for themselves.

First grader Aubrey Morrow skipped the smaller books and went right for the chapter books.

"I wanted to see something different," said Morrow. "(Reading) helps to extend your mind and kind of brings you places."

As of February 2016, Disney had donated some 50 million books to First Book.
